Here are my images for my Big Brother Is Watching You project. I followed my model around York taking lots of pictures of her going about everyday activities. I asked her to wear the orange hat, scarf and shoes to make her stand out (inspired by Jill Magid's project about CCTV cameras where she wore a red coat). I took pictures both from ground level and from vantage points. Looking at these images now, it is clear to me that the images from the vantage points work better than the ones at ground level as I want my images to be in the style of a CCTV camera and look like they were taken from one. I really like these images and I think they are scary as you don't realise how often you are seen by these cameras. I edited the images slightly by adding a little bit of noise to the images, dulling down the colour of everyone elses clothes except my models to make her stand out more, and blurring everything in the image except my model to make her stand out even more (only very slightly). In some of Jill Magid's images she has completely blurred out everyone else in the image except her and made everyone else in the image appear darker (asif she was surrounded by a halo). I didn't want to do this to my images as I thought it would be too extreme. To get my vantage points I stood on the walls in York which are high up and asked my model to walk past me at ground level and I photographed her as if I was positioned where a CCTV camera was. I initially thought that if I could capture my model on an actual CCTV screen it would exaggerate my theme more and give a different angle on the project. To do this I went to my mums work where I know there is a CCTV camera pointing at a back door, and a screen showing what the camera shows on the front desk. I then asked my model to stand by the door underneith the security camera and pretend to be on the phone whilst I took a picture of her on the screen. I like this as an idea however when I look at the images I don't think they really go with the set taken from the viewpoint of a security camera.
