Here are some photos of my exhibition where I displayed my final year 1 core assignment. We were all given a space of 5ft by 6ft to display our work. I printed my images 8x10inches in a matte finish. I prefer a matte finish rather than a glossy one because they reflect the light less. I mounted my prints on foam board which made them look more professional and better for presenting in an exhibition. The 5ft by 6ft area we had to display our images was a large piece of thick card board. I attached my images to the board using pins. I would secure two pins under the image for it to rest on and two pins above the image to secure it in place.
Outcome 2 : Book
I made this book as my second outcome to support my exhibition photographs. My book contains 30 images from my collection of performing arts photography. I like having a book as another form of displaying my work because it shows more than an exhibition can. With the 5ft by 6ft space I had at the exhibition there wasn't really much room. I had 9 photographs on display there which was really probably too many for the space I had. Since the book shows 30 photographs it's an opportunity for people to see more of my work than what they can see at an exhibition.
I got my book created by Jessops and I am really happy with the professional finish. It is a lot more professional looking than books I have had made in the past by other people/companies. It is a 7x5inch book with a hardback. I really like how some of the pages have 2 images on and are different sizes etc, it varies the book so it doesn't become boring to the viewer. When I was last in Jessops they gave me some free software to create the book exactly how I wanted it on my computer at home and taught me how to put the file on a disc and take it into them so they could make it for me. I really liked this personal approach and will definitely be going back to Jessops in the future when I want any more books/portfolios making.
My Year 1 Core Project was about performing arts. I chose this theme because I was really inspired by some photographs that were displayed in college of some performances. I had originally said in my proposal that I wanted to show a variety of images and aspects of performing arts such as behind the scenes in rehearsals, dress rehearsals and on stage performances. I photographed 2 rehearsals, and 3 full dress rehearsals on stage. As my project progressed I realised that I much preferred the images taken at the full dress rehearsals - just as they would be seen on stage with costume and lighting etc. I thought they would work better as a set as well rather than having some rehearsals and some performances because they were shot in different lighting conditions. As I was working to my own brief it didn't really matter that I was changing my idea to what I had said in my proposal but if I was working for a client and doing what someone had asked me to do I couldn't just miss out something when it came to giving them their images.
Overall I am really happy with my Year 1 Core Project and am really pleased with my outcomes. I was really pleased with the images that I put into my exhibition and I was proud to see them displayed alongside everyone else's. I am also really happy with the book that I made and I think it is the most professional looking of all the photography books I have made. I think my images look professional and document the plays/performances well. All of the casts that I worked with were really friendly and very good at what they did and I enjoyed the experience. I feel like I have improved as a photographer too as I have learnt how to cope with different lighting and changes in lighting. I have received lots of compliments on my final pieces from tutors which makes me very proud. I've even been told that the head of art/photography would like to mount some of my photos from this project and display them around college which would be a huge achievement for me.
