PERFORMANCE PHOTOGRAPHY : Research : David Price

DISCLAIMER : All of these images were taken by David Price.
None of these images are my own.

I love this relaxed looking rehearsal/script practice shot. I love the way he has captured

Although I like this image, it's not really my idea of performance photography because it looks staged and set up, rather than capturing a performance

VIDEO PHOTO STORY

This is a video photo story inspired by La Jetee by Chris Marker. We were given a script by our teacher and told to photograph it by using metaphors rather than photographing the actual subject which was mentioned in the script. E.g. when the Simpsons are mentioned, we were told to not go and photograph the Simpsons either in a shop or a poster.

I found it quite difficult trying to come up with metaphors for the script, as the script was quite abstract in the first place. At first I had no clue how to attack this task because the script was so strange. I quite like the way my video turned out for a first attempt at a video photo story and I like the way the images transition into one another.

YEAR 1 CORE Assignment : Task 6 : Shoot 1 : Rehearsal : Machinal

All of these images are my own.

This is my favourite image from the photoshoot. I love how the actress is looking right into the camera even though she was in character and mid way through the performance at the time.

I like how this image captures a big part of rehearsals. It shows the intensity of the young mans face in the foreground of the image, with other people dancing and performing in the mid-ground, and in the far background the director watching over the performance.

Here I have applied a vignette to the previous image to highlight the three sets of feet of the performers.

I like this shot of someones arm during the performance. When I think of rehearsal photographs and documentary performance photography, I wouldn't have thought of anything like this but I really like it. In future photoshoots I would like to take more abstract photographs like this one.

I love the intensity in this shot, I just wish that I had framed it better and got the whole of the young mans body in as I have cropped out some of his arm by accident.

I really like this image because the movement has been captured from the people circling around the girl in the chair, yet the focus is still on the girl in the chair who is very crisp and seems to be glowing.
