FMP - Initial review of first shoots

From this small critique I have found out that people like the abstract images of shapes more than the alleyways. They said that they liked the patterns and how cropped in my images were. From the group critique, these two images were voted peoples favourites from the set :

The group that reviewed my initial photo shoots said that they liked the angles that I'd taken my images in and how they were shot straight on and how this makes them aesthetically pleasing with leading lines to guide the viewer's eye around the images. They said that the images worked as a series as they are all shot in a similar style, yet the are of different things so they are unique at the same time. When I asked people what they thought I was trying to communicate through these images they said that I was trying to show the rough areas and wear on buildings. This is good as I wanted to communicate hidden York - areas that you don't see as a tourist or visitor and show that there are areas that aren't well kept even though you might think that they would be since it is such a big tourist attraction. I wanted to show my concept in an abstract, artistic way. The group said that they liked the way I had cropped into images and composed them in a way that makes them abstract as you can't really tell what each thing is in every image. 

What needs improving?

The people who reviewed my photos said that I should get rid of any photographs that have text in them as it makes them less abstract and is distracting to the viewer. They said I could improve my project by going even more abstract than I have done in my test shots and not include any text because text puts the images into context and shows where they are but an abstract image could have been taken anywhere. Suggestions to complete my project were to just keep shooting and try and think outside the box and be more abstract and artistic and possibly not include doorhandles or keyholes because they add context to the image.
